I have to ask if the value is high enough that longevity can be effectively ignored. It's something I think about whenever I buy software synths. Unike software, hardware is often something you can open up and repair if you need to (proprietary components aside). That's one nice thing about stand-alone hardware: if the company goes bust or sells or whatever, you still have working hardware for decades. So I don't use it on any new work because it's now a liability. I know Alchemy will eventually stop working and I refuse to keep an old PC or old OS around just to run it. I've basically abandoned it all I didn't reinstall when I built my new PC. I have Alchemy, a ton of sound packs, plus their other two plugins. I just pray that Spectrasonics doesn't do go the same way as Camel Audio. ![]() It's old news now though, and I'm guessing most of us moved on and either abandoned Alchemy, or still use it knowing that it will never be updated. How can Windows users who LOVED Alchemy NOT have gotten extremely disappointed. The Camel guys got us all excited about a version 2.0 and a long future with Alchemy, all to have it taken away by Apple. As a Windows user though, I have a right to feel like we were dissed. Yeah, when cold-hard cash is waved in front of you by Apple, it's hard to refuse. Tonight the entire USA needs to all sing, "Kumbayah my Lord, Kumbahya." Now I still use Diva, Dark Zebra, and Tal-101 at times when not using hardware for specific sounds.Diva is still amazing, but again I'm being very picky. TBH, between Logic's Alchemy and Retro Synth.which is horribly underrated BTW as VA/FM/Wavetable with an outstanding filter, I could make pretty much all the sounds I would ever need. ![]() Still, this thing with a few improvements could be a great all arounder. I can pan the different oscillators yeah, but not the width of a given unison. Also, I don't like that individual oscillators in unison are either mono or stereo, and I have no control over width of the stereo. My beef with it is that high speed modulation is just okay.we all know now that it is very possible for software to achieve legit sounding audio rate modulation such as on Synthmaster or Reaktor. It can function as a sampler, and has a lot of excellent filter types, and I really like that there are about 5-10 different waveform variations of saw, pulse, tri, sin. The fx on it are very good and I love how everything can be routed from per sound source filters to global filters, and sending sound to different fx chain channels. I wish the sequencer and arp were a bit more feature laden but I'm nit-picking. Even as just a straight VA making basic patches, it does quite well. I've gotten to know Alchemy much better since its become a Logic instrument and I must say that it is excellent. Logic itself is only $200, and is still arguably one of the best DAWs going and almost certainly has the best stock mixing plugin packages. I paid almost $400 for Camel Alchemy and a few sound packs about 3 years ago. It would have been great to keep the old version uodated and all, but that sorta defeats the purpose of Apple acquiring it, no? I mean, c'mon.I'm not gonna complain about some software developers cashing out. Alchemy is marked by low CPU consumption.Ī host application that supports VST 2.It's one thing to be offered money for your company, but it's another thing to be offered Apple money. In addition to the above, Alchemy implements a wide range of analog filters, flexible wreck, which includes well-known effects from CamelPhat and CamelSpace, as well as new ones.Ĭamel Audio Alchemy integrates a powerful arpeggiator with the ability to import MIDI files with immediate synchronization for your track. You can import your samples in SFZ, WAV or AIFF formats. With Camel Audio Alchemy, spectral and granular synthesis methods are also possible along with sampling and taking advantage of the bold analog engine. It is equipped with the most powerful additive engine with very accurate resynthesis. ![]() You can use the library as the main sound designer in your work, or you can create your own samples.Ĭamel Audio Alchemy lets you manipulate sound like no synthesizer or sampler. This is a synthesis power plant with its almost unlimited possibilities and ease of operation, thanks to the thoughtful interface of the tool.Ī library of modern sounds explores new sound spaces ranging from cutting-edge pedals and sublime soundscapes to ultra-thick basses and synthesizers.
